If you are taking care of a family member and have obtained recognition as such and are receiving economic benefits through the Ley de Dependencia, and you are not a professional carer, you can subscribe to a special Convenio with the Tesorería of the Seguridad Social so you will be building up pension entitlement etc.
In a recent Royal Decree it has been confirmed that the State Government (through the Social Services institute IMSERSO) will take responsibility for the social security contributions for those already subscribed to said Convenio, and new subscribers alike, so 100% of the social security contributions will be subsidised as per 1.4.2019.
If you have subscribed already, as of the 1st of April this year, the contributions will no longer be taken from your account.
If you have been recognised and are receiving economic benefits as a non professional carer but have not subscribed yet, you can do so until 90 days after the 1st of April, and your subscription will be activated retro-actively as per the 1st of April 2019.
If you subscribe outside of this window, the effective date will be the date of your application.
If the accreditation of your status as carer will take place after the 1st of April, the subsidy re the Convenio payments will be effective as of the date of your accreditation, provided you apply within 90 days after that.
