Healthcare Entitlement from the UK – S1 or Legislation Letter

Either to apply for a S1 form for pensioners, or a ´letter of no entitlement´ for those whose S1 has expired or those who have no UK entitlement at all and are asked to provide this ´legislation letter´ to access the Spanish public healthcare system.

Also entitled to the S1: If you don’t live in the country where you are insured. Useful for posted workers, cross-border workers, pensioners and civil servants and their dependants. Also available for some who have exportable benefits.

Please note that you can also apply for your spouse even if not of retirement age.

This applies to residents and also to those needing healthcare to apply for residency.

Once issued, you need to present the document at the INSS office in your area to get your right to Spanish healthcare accredited, before you can register with a GP at a local medical centre of your choice.
