Many have done so by using a UK or other EU country address. The licence may be renewed but when you eventually have to renew in Spain, the DGT will be made aware of the fact just by checking residency and renewal date abroad. They will have the right to deny renewal in Spain. In reality a driving licence renewed in a country that is not your country of residence, is null and void.

The EU regulations on driving licence renewal, states clearly that you must renew in country of habitual residence.

We are aware that the EU has asked all EU countries to go easy in the cases above.
