Vehicle Scrapped / De Baja – Right To Refund Road Tax?

Yes, depending on the month you had the vehicle taken off the road.

If you´ve arranged for a vehicle to be scrapped / baja definitiva and have the corresponding paperwork from Trafico, you can take this to either your Town Hall, or Suma Office (depending on who sends out the road tax bills in your area) and ask for a reimbursement. Filling out a form, naturally.

If you´ve paid the tax and scrap the car before the end 0f September, you will be entitled to a ´devolución´ of the relevant pro rata amount.

If you´ve paid the tax and scrap the car in the months October, November or December, you are NOT entitled to a refund.

If you´ve only done a ´baja temporal´, you are also NOT entitled to a refund, but you do need to present the paperwor, to avoid receiving an invoice the following year.
