Special Convenio – To Make Up Pension Years or Bridge Income Gap

Convenios Especiales are agreements that you can sign up for, thus committing to voluntary payment of the social security contributions (instead of an employer).

Why/when:

If you find yourself in a situation of unemployment (once your contributive unemployment benefits ´paro´ have run out) and your pension date is not too far away, and you foresee that it would be beneficial to continue adding years to your pension entitlement (to reach the minimum required), or if your current contract is for a lower salary than the year prior to that and you want to close that gap to make sure your pension will be calculated on this higher salary.

Or if you are temporarily working less hours because you are taking care of a minor.

Or if you have been declared partially disabled but been denied a disability pension.

Requisite:
– minimum of 3 contributing years (1.080 days) in the 12 years prior to the ´baja´, so when you and your employer stopped contributing.

There are numerous convenios especiales, all for different situations, so please make an appointment with the INSS/CAISS in your area and ask there about the amounts to pay in as well as there are several options to choose from and which is the appropiate one for you, depends on your personal situation.
