Social Services - Grants to Adapt Homes for Disabled or Over 65

The Province of Málaga has issued a ´convocatoria´ to apply for grants to help pay for adaptations to the home of disabled or those over 65 that need them, but cannot afford to have them made.

Available to inhabitants of villages up to 20.000 inhabitants, must have been on the padrón for at least a year and the property must be your habitual home. Either as owner or as tenant, but in the latter case, you´d need permission from the landlord for the adaptations to be made.

Available to those with accredited disability of at least 33% or over 65 with specific needs as a result of reduced mobility.

The window to apply is limited, until the 14th of September 2018 and there are income limits to qualify.

Think about fees to be paid to Town Hall for a building licence, changing bathroom from bath to shower, installing non-slip floors, installing supports, placing handrails in hallways, adapting size of door openings or eliminating barriers (for efficient use of wheelchair), adapting kitchen and kitchen equipment.

The applications need to be accompanied by a report/recommendation from Social Services, so they would be your first port of call to make enquiries.

This information is valid for the province of Málaga, but please, if you need adaptations to your home and cannot possibly aford them, contact your local Social Services and make enquiries whether there are grants you could be eligible for.

Please note: The information provided is based upon our understanding of current legislation. It is not legal advice but is provided freely to enable you to be properly informed. We recommend that if you are considering taking action, you should seek professional advice.
