Extract from the speech by Pedro Sanchez on Spanish television on Sunday the 31st of May.
The coming week Pedro Sanchez will ask the Consejo de Ministros to approve a sixth extension of the State of Alarm from the 8th to the 21st of June, but with one big difference. It is expected that by Monday the 8th, more than half of the country will be in Phase 3 and the management of this Phase will be in the hands of the Autonomous Governments, rather than the central government. With just one exemption: mobility, which will continue to be controlled by the central government.
Autonomous governments will be able to decide on the rhythm and duration of the de-escalation measures during Phase 3.
The minister-president further mentioned that the re-activation measures will concentrate on the tourism sector and the car industry (10% of Spain’s bruto national income) with an emphasis on sustainability and quality employment.
He announced a reform of the Statute for Employees, with more emphasis on ERTEs.
The latest development with regards to eradicating poverty in Spain, the Minimum Vital Income that was approved by an extraordinary meeting of the Congreso de Ministros last Friday, was mentioned as a big step towards social justice and decency.
