Since the 1st of January of 2016, a notice period of at least ONE month is now sufficient to cancel any insurance policy before the renewal date. Used to be two months. The cancellation should be in writing and we suggest that you send this as a certified letter.
Insurers however, are still held to the two months to inform you as the insured party of any changes to the policy, like a price increase. If they fail to comply, don´t inform you or inform you late, you have the right to refuse this increase and continue to pay the old premium, or to cancel the insurance altogether as the insurance company has failed to meet the conditions that both parties have signed.
If your insurance company is not aware of this new law, you can quote them this:

Translation:
This is reflected in Law 20/2015 of July 14 on the Ordinance, Supervision and Solvency of Insurance and Reinsurance Entities, which introduces, among other modifications, a change in article 22 of Law 50/1980, of October 8, Of Insurance Contract.
The new wording of Article 22.2 states that “the parties may oppose the extension of the contract by giving written notice to the other party, made at least one month before the conclusion of the current insurance period when Who opposes the extension is the borrower. ”
“The insurer shall notify the policyholder, at least two months before the end of the current period, of any changes to the insurance contract.”
Note: health insurances are ´tricky´ in that many of them ´run´ from January 1st to December 31st, so check your policy for the exact renewal date so you can cancel with sufficient notice if you wish to do so.
