Medical Prostheses - Internal Or External- Covered By Spanish Nhs?

Posted in: Health
Author: Richelle de Wit

The Real Decreto 1506/2012, de 2 de noviembre, regulates the compensation for a catalogue of approved prostheses, covered by the Spanish NHS and it states the established maximum costs and maximum contributions. Administrated by INGESA, the Instituo Nacional de Gestión Sanitaria.

The list ´Oferta´ contains both internal and external prostheses, as well as (rehabilitation) equipment like wheelchairs.

From the list of Ofertas, each region selects products that they will put up in their autonomous catalogue.

Generally speaking, all prostheses have a ´co-pago´, so a contribution from the patient, equal to the percentages he/she is contributing towards the price of prescription medicines.

So,

A. 60% for those with income over 100.000 euros,

B. 50% for those with income between 18.000 and 100.000

C. 40% for those not in group A or B

D. 10% for pensioners, except those in group A

E. 10% for a list ANNEXO  of products, specified in this Real Decreto. See link above, scroll down to the end. Hearing Aids / Audifonos are on this list, for example.

F. 0% if you are in receipt of a pension for disability, or a non-contributivo pension, or unemployed and not in receipt of unemployment benefits or unemployment subsidio, or if you are in receipt of a ´renta de integración social´, or if you are in need of a prothesis as a result of a work related illness or – accident.
