How To Make Sure WhatsApp Does Not Share Data With Facebook

Facebook acquired the WhatsApp messenger App in 2014 and earlier this week, it started sending messages to its users, alerting them to a change in the user conditions.

  • As a subsidiary company of Facebook, during the next months we will start to share information that will allow us to coordinate better and thus improve the experience between both services. This is a practice, appropiate for a company that has been taken over by another.

      The ´encrypted´ messages will still remain private, but if you don´t like the idea of sharing info from your WhatsApp account with Facebook, you can disable this share-option, but only once you have received the message as posted above and you need to do so within 30 days.

      Go to settings in your WhatsApp app – go to Account – Share my account info and uncheck the box.

      Go to ´Ajustes – Cuenta´and un-tick the box that says «Compartir la información de mi cuenta de Whatsapp con Facebook para mejorar mi experiencia con los productos y publicidad en Facebook. Tus chats y número telefónico no serán compartidos en Facebook independientemente de este ajuste».

    • ¨Share the information of my WhatsApp account with Facebook to improve my experience with the products and publicity on Facebook. Your  chats and phone number will not be shared on Facebook whether you tick this box or not.¨

    Once you´ve un-ticked this option, you cannot change it back ever again.

    Please note that even when you make use of this option, WhatsApp will still share some info with Facebook, according to the new user conditions.
