Do I Need To Communicate a Death To Seguridad Social?

Yes, you do, if the deceased was a resident in Spain and registered for health care and/or in receipt of any pension or benefits. You need to present the death certificate at the INSS / CAISS office conveniently close to your location.

By law, all official documents presented in Spain should be in Spanish language, and some even with Apostille, but in practice, not all offices insist on that, so if the death of a Spanish resident has taken place abroad, best to ask for an international death certificate or if that option is not available, ask at Seguridad Social office what they would accept first, before making costs for translation and Apostille.
