How to Apply for Home Help for the Elderly and Disabled

Applicants must hold the status of legal residence and have been on the padron for at least five years.

Social services in town halls resources vary. Where one town hall will provide a full service. Others provide limited services. It is important to take into account the social services in all areas of Spain are aware that many foreigners who have no families in Spain have no contingency plans in place for old age. Majority have no family present. Some develop dementia or Alzheimer’s or need full time physical care, the only options are private care homes until state residential care homes are available. There are long waiting lists for these.  Can we suggest that our elderly residents or their families take their future into considerations and make some plans?” Myra.

 

Assistance with a sick or elderly person that needs help to maintain his or her independence at home, is arranged under the Ley de Dependencia, executed by Servicios Sociales of your region. Most Town Halls have a social worker that can help you with the paperwork to apply for it.

First an assessment will take place to determine the degree of dependency as all available services and allowances are categorised by these degrees as well. Some services are free of charge, others will require a financial compensation, depending on income.

For pensioners, several of the services offered are also available for those that hold the Tarjeta 65, like the Servicio Tele Asistencia. Link below:
