There is an information document in The Library under TRAFFIC FINES on how to check for fines against your name or your vehicle. We recommend you do so regularly, as fines are known to get ´lost´ in the mail and non-payment will lead to embargo of your bank account. Here is the direct link.

How to Find Traffic Fines

Do you have any fines?
The DGT notifies its sanctions through postal mail, electronic mail and the BOE.
Carlos NICOLAS FRAILE
DECEMBER 14, 2021

When we are sanctioned for committing a traffic offence, we receive the corresponding notification of the sanction at our address (except if we receive the fine directly from the agent at the place of the infraction, then it is considered notified).

However, if it is not possible to deliver it due to absence or change of address, the complaint will be published on the Single Edictal Board (TEU), which we can consult whenever we want through the BOE website.

In addition, the DGT has an electronic notification service for this purpose, the Electronic Road Address (DEV).

When we verify that there is a penalty, we must make sure where it comes from (DGT, autonomous communities with traffic powers or town halls), to pay it or to claim the corresponding body. In case you are not the offender, we must notify who is the responsible driver.

How does the DGT notify a sanction?

When you have a fine from the DGT, the channels through which you will be informed of the sanction are these:
• By postal mail. You will receive several notifications by mail at different times, to ensure receipt of the notification. If you do not receive the letter at your address, it is possible that the DGT does not have your postal address up to date. You can check it on the website of the Electronic Headquarters of the DGT.
• Single Edictal Board (TEU). After several attempts to locate you or if the notification is rejected, the sanction is published on the BOE’s Single Edictal Board. At this point, the notification is taken for granted and the sanctioning procedure continues.
• Road Electronic Address (DEV). It is an electronic mailbox to receive communications from the DGT by email and SMS, with the same legal effects as paper notifications. You can register at the Electronic Headquarters of the DGT.

And remember:
• You can process the payment of fines and submit allegations or appeals through the Electronic Headquarters of the DGT.
• To carry out any face-to-face procedure at the Traffic Headquarters, it is necessary to request an appointment online or by phone (060).
