UK Nationals and Blue Badge

Some visitors are still using the Blue Badge. We suggest you may wish to print out and carry with you, this Nota Verbal  TARJETAS DE ESTACIONAMIENTO PARA PERSONAS CON DISCAPACIDAD EMITIDAS EN REINO UNIDO      where the British Embassy asks that the Spanish government recognises the new version. This is not a note giving you any rights to use your UK blue badge.

Visitors to Spain using the Blue Badge from other EU Countries:

Please note that the Blue badge was standardised in 2009 so the same picture and format. if you have the older badge which may be legal in your home country, please check that it is valid abroad.

You may use your badge in all European Union and EEA countries. Please consider that the rules may vary so ask in each country you plan to visit. You may find this information at the tourist offices. Ask for examples of the notices for Blue Badge parking.

For those from outside the EU, there is another regulation in place with regards to the reciprocal recognition of parking badges for disabled, since 1978, that Spain has implemented. Valid for those from all ECMT countries (European Conference of Ministers of Transport) and ECMT Associated Countries (Australia, Canada, Japan, Korea, New Zealand and United States).
