Amaxofobia - What Is It And How To Overcome It?

Posted in: On The Road
Author: Richelle de Wit

Amaxofobia is the fear of driving after having gone through a traumatic experience, like a traffic accident. It is more common than you might realise.

Foundation CEA (Fundación Comisariado Europeo del Automóvil), in collaboration with and with subsidy from DGT/Trafico, have organised courses to help those who suffer from amaxofobia recognise their phobia and overcome their fear of driving. The courses have been voted this year´s ´Best Road Safety Measure 2014´in the ´Ponle Freno´ campaign, 7th edition.

The courses are free of charge and consist of a session with a psychologist and practical accompanied sessions on a closed traffic circuit or with a traffic simulator.

Victims of traffic accidents that are interested in this course need to fill out a questionnaire which will be analised by a psychologist after which selected pupils will receive notification.
