Are British And Irish Wills Valid In Spain?

Both Irish and UK wills are valid in Spain. These wills  must be translated and legalised, which means attaching the Apostille of the Hague to prove its authenticity.

I personally advise residents of Spain and holiday homeowners to make a will in their home country for the assets there and they Spanish will in Spain for Spanish assets. To use a foreign will in Spain causes delay and expense due to the fact that one would use a lawyer in the home country and a lawyer in Spain, to accept the inheritance with these wills.

This can create confusion for your beneficiaries during an already challenging time, adding unnecessary complications when clarity and simplicity are most needed.
