Cuota Autonomo 1% Higher As Per 1.1.2020 - Explained

The increase is lower than in previous years. The contribution based on the ‘base reguladora minima’, the ‘base’ selected by most Autonomos, goes from 283,30 euros in 2019 to 286,15 euros in 2020.

The increase of 1% is caused by an increase in the percentages the Seguridad Social charges for the various kinds of cover, as arranged in a Royal Decree from December 2018.

What you pay in exchange for having health and economic coverage in case of accident or non-occupational disease does not change in 2020. The general rate remains at 28.30%. Therefore, you pay 267.26 euros of the total autonomo quota for common contingencies. Next the calculation.

944.40 x 28.30% / 100 = 267.26 euros

Common contingencies is a concept by which the self-employed person has been obliged to contribute for many years, unlike those mentioned below and which, today, are also mandatory in the self-employed contribution.

You will also have to dig a little deeper for being covered in 2020 in case of an accident at work and occupational disease. And, the specific contribution rate for professional contingencies in 2020 is 1.1%, two tenths above the rate of 2019. Little more than 10.30 euros is what you pay in your autonomo contribution to ensure support, both re health and economic in case of an accident at work.

944.40 x 1.1% / 100 = 10.38 euros

Contributing for professional contingencies is mandatory for virtually all freelancers since January 1, 2019, although prior to this date there were a number of cases in which this obligation did exist; This was the case for economically dependent self-employed workers (TRADE), the self-employed and cooperative partners dedicated to street/market sales as well as the self-employed with especially dangerous work.

Last year the cessation of activity was also added as mandatory to the contribution of the self-employed worker (the self-employed that are registered on the Tarifa Plana are left out). If in 2019 the specific contribution rate was 0.7%, in 2020 the rate increases to 0.8%. This means that the autonomo allocates about 8 euros a month to be protected against the cessation of activity (unemployment benefits ‘paro’ for Autonomos).

944.40 x 0.8% / 100 = 7.55 euros

There is another mandatory item in the self-employed contribution corresponding to professional or subsidised training. Although the rate at which it is listed is the smallest, at 0.1%, which represents less than one euro of the total of the autonomo quota, the self-employed worker does not have access to the training provided today as employed workers do.

944.40 x 0.1% / 100 = 0.94 euros
