UK Legislation Letter for the Convenio Especial Healthcare?

The convenio especial provided by some autonomous regions where those residents who have no way to access the Spanish healthcare system private or public, can pay into the NHS and avail of healthcare. Some regional governments are asking for the legislation letter (proof that you are no longer entitled to healthcare in your home country) as a requisite. The Overseas Healthcare Team are not providing this letter for the convenio. This is a response to one of the CAB Spain team from the British Embassy:

“You are correct in believing that the Overseas Healthcare Team (OHT) did stop issuing Legislation Letters during the summer. However they agreed to re-issue them again as long as it was in order to join this specific scheme (limite de rentas) with Spanish social security (INSS). They will not issue a legislation letter for the convenio especial for example. Please call OHT on 00 44 191 218 1999 if you require this document for the INSS”.
