In the autonomous region of Aragón, the amount of citizens that are at risk of social exclusion because of insufficient income or no income at all, because of longterm unemployment for example, has grown significantly quicker in the past 5 years than the average number for the whole of Spain.
The Autonomous Government has therefore decided to amplify the ´catalogue´ or if you wish, ´means or tools´ of Social Services to help those vulnerable citizens.
Amongst other things, they have stated that all banks and mortgage lenders that are about to start eviction procedures because of non-payment of the monthly instalments, should inform Social Services first and work with them to prevent eviction.
Also, the financial benefits that are paid out by Social Services, are ´non-embargoable`, so untouchable for any possible debt collector.
They offer a top-up of the non-contributive pension for instance, for those families that need it and meet the requisites.
So, if you are a resident in Aragón, on the padrón of one of its towns or cities, and in dire financial circumstances, please do not hesitate to turn to Servicios Sociales at your local Town Hall as they have been given more tools to help you, as per the 2nd week of February 2017, according to the publication in the State Buletin of this new law.
