The Ask for Advice (AFA) Section of the Citizens Advice Spain

Members who are posting on our Facebook Group Page should be aware that it is an open forum. Other members will often share their experiences which could be of assistance to you. There are also issues where no two cases are the same. This also includes many transactions carried our in relation to residency application, NIE applications, signing on the padron (census), making healthcare applications, setting up as autonomo (self employed), purchasing or selling a property, applying to renew your driving licence for a Spanish version and so on. The various authorities do not always abide by the rules and often surprisingly, are not aware of the regulations.

CAB Spain team has only three volunteer advisers who assist  citizens from all regions of Spain and the islands. Some UK CAB offices, as we discovered on a recent visit to Glasgow have as many as twenty-eight advisers in one office.  CAB advisers answer your questions in private on the Ask for Advice (AFA) section of the website, via email and often by telephone. We will sometimes come onto a thread on the FB group but find that our answers even if we use the logo symbol are often lost amongst the comments from members and at times actually ignored.  For these reasons we prefer to ask you to consider using the website for private consultations.

Some may wonder why we ask for a minimal sum of five euros for the use of this section. There is also the option to register as a donating website member which allows you to pose as many questions as you need during the term of your annual membership.  On the AFA section you will communicate with us from the comfort of your armchair. Please consider that it would likely cost you more than a donation of five euros to make your way to a CAB office by public or private transport which would likely include parking fees if you were visiting a UK office or one of our clinics.  Please remember that we are a registered charity and incur expenses. We have just visited Glasgow where we hosted a stand at “A Place in the Sun Exhibition” .  Kind members donated but CAB Spain still paid for over 50% of the cost.

We still do not have the option to ask members to renew their subscriptions on the website. Can we please  rely on you to do this yourselves as to date you will not have received any notifications about the need to renew your website membership.  “Please help us to help you”

So please remember, AFA for a private one to one with a CAB adviser actually saves you money.
