What All Spanish Electricity Bills Should Look Like By 01.10.2014

Spanish Ministry of Industry, Energy and Tourism

Resolution 5655 of 23rd of May 2014  of the Dirección General de Política Energética y Minas, in which rules with regards to minimum content and layout of Energy Bills to consumers are established.

Examples of bills for the different possible contract are enclosed as Annexes to the BOE publication (pdf file)  http://www.boe.es/boe/dias/2014/05/30/pdfs/BOE-A-2014-5655.pdf

I will  explain the various obligatory itemized posts and ´novelties´for the bills to consumers that have contracted the most common tarif, PVPC, Annex I, page 14 of the pdf file.

The letters refer to the itemized sections, with same letters, on the Annexes to the BOE pdf file.

a) Electricity Company, logo

b) Total of the bill

c) Contracted kW

d) Consumer data

e) Data on kWh consumed, if it´s an estimated amount (estimado) or ´read´ (lectura real) .

Novelties: should state where to go with a complaint, and in case you do not have a digital meter yet (contador inteligente), the website where you can go to check if the calculated PVPC tariff for the period billed, is the correct one.

N.B. I checked the cvmc.es website and the calculater is not live yet, but should be by October 1st 2014 at the latest. Will keep you posted on that.

f) Should state what kind of meter you have, i.e. con/sin contador inteligente (digital or not)

g) Explains what part of the bill the company uses for what purpose:  incentives for renewable energy, maintaining the grid, paying off the deficit

h) More details on the billed amounts, rent of equipment etc.

i) Should state info on the kind of contract you have, and of the other options available to you and where to go for information, comparisons etc.

j) Should state info on the source of the energy delivered to your home and its environmental footprint.

Please note: The information provided is based upon our understanding of current legislation. It is not legal advice but is provided freely to enable you to be properly informed. We recommend that if you are considering taking action, you should seek professional advice.
