Major Dutch newspaper reports about an updated list of countries with regards to their freedom of press, investigated and published by Freedom House, an independent organisation in the U.S.

Media concerns in Spain are victim of the economic crisis as well, they have trouble surviving. Journalists ever often practice self-censure for fear of losing their jobs and pressure from political powers, even threats from the government to boycott newspapers whose line of reporting doesn´t agree with them, by cutting off income from advertisements, have been reported.

According to Freedom House, freedom of press in Spain is at its lowest since they started accumulating data, equal to Ghana or Suriname.

Recent dismissal of founder/editor-in-chief from mayor newspaper El Mundo, presumably under pressure from Spanish Government, and another well-known journalist quitting his job with El Pais as a result of the Moroccan government´s reaction to his critical publications on Moroccan issues, serve to illustrate this deterioration of press freedom in Spain, according to Freedom House.
