Minimum Wage (SMI)

The minimum wage in Spain normally increases annually and is known as the Salario Mínimo Interprofesional (SMI).

2025: The minimum wage (SMI)for 2025 has been set at €1,166 gross per month, spread over 14 payments annually.

2024: The Official State Gazette  has published Royal Decree which raises the amount of the Inter-professional Minimum Wage (SMI) to 1,134 euros in 14 payments.

It represents an increase of 8% compared to its previous value
The increase is retroactive to January 1, 2023
The minimum wage for domestic employees who work by the hour is set at 8.45 euros per hour actually worked.
The BOE has published Royal Decree 99/2023, of February 14, which raises the amount of the Minimum Interprofessional Salary (SMI) to 1,080 euros gross per month in 14 payments, up to 15,120 euros gross per year.

The salary is set at 36 euros/day or 1,080 euros/month, depending on whether the salary is set per day or per month.

This salary is understood to refer to the legal working day in each activity, not including in the case of the daily salary the proportional part of Sundays and holidays. If a shorter day is made, it will be received pro rata.

With this new amount, the Minimum Wage increases by 8% and represents an increase of 47% in the last five years.

This increase applies retroactively to January 1, 2023

Casual, seasonal and seasonal workers

The royal decree also sets the Minimum Wage for workers belonging to this group, whose services to the same company do not exceed one hundred and twenty days, for which in no case the amount of wages may be less than 51.15 euros per working day.

Domestic workers and employees

In the case of the employment relationship of a special nature in the family home service, the minimum wage for domestic employees who work by the hour is set at 8.45 euros per hour actually worked.
