As part of the Junta de Andalucia’s preparations for Brexit, the first ‘help-office’ has been opened.
It has been installed on the second floor of the Junta de Andalucia´s Subdelegate Government in the Campo de Gibraltar (Algeciras).
According to the responsible government official this service is about creating a “meeting point where citizens, in which the 10,000 workers who cross La Verja every day, may face an emergency situation, doubt or uncertainty, have a representative of the administration of the Junta de Andalucía to respond ”. At the head of this office is a technician of the subdelegation and “as the volume of work increases, so will more resources be made available.”
In La Linea de la Concepción, through Extenda- the Andalusian Agency for Promotion Abroad, works are being carried out to adapt the regional Tourism building on Avenida del Ejército to house the 2nd Brexit office for information to both citizens and businesses.
The Andalusian Program of Preparedness and Contingency Measures re Brexit, approved on September 11, 2019, contains, apart from the two information offices mentioned, a 4 million-euros-fund to support municipalities in the region with the implementation of an economic innovation strategy, a business implementation plan, as well as local cooperation initiatives (ITI employment- investigation, innovation, technology).
In addition to this specific block for the Campo de Gibraltar, it provides support measures such as a contingency plan for each company individually through Extenda for companies affected by Brexit and support for companies that want to move from the United Kingdom; the reinforcement of incentives for hiring people affected by Brexit and for freelancers; guarantees for affected SMEs (small to medium-sized businesses); comprehensive relocation plans: business or territorial. The Program consists of 112 different measures in total.
There’s a Brexit office in Gibraltar too, operational since October last year. The office is located at 323 Main Street opposite the John Mackintosh Hall and is open from 9am to 3pm.
