On the death of a family member in Spain, most will have made prior funeral arrangements. The funeral director will take charge of the funeral arrangements which will include obtaining the death certificate and registering the death at the registry.
On such a sad occasion, there usually no time to think with so much effort and time going towards contacting family and friends, that it is normally only after the funeral that family sit down and wonder what legal steps should be taken. Many will start to experience anxiety by worrying about what actions must be taken. Easier said than done but family need to take a deep breath and understand that they need time to come to terms with the death and to grieve. Families should be reassured that there is no need to rush to complete the legal obligations.
