We are pleased and proud to announce that CAB Spain has been invited to the Citizens Advice International Conference to take place in Gibraltar on the 22/23 of June. The invitation was made to me personally by Pilar Hernandez who is the chairperson of CAI who have their offices in Brussels.
Taken from a booklet from Gibraltar Citizens Advice Bureau, we provide you with the following information: Citizens Advice International is an umbrella organisation set up to represent the interests of advice giving bodies throughout the world.
It supports independent providers of free, impartial and confidential advice and information to the public about their rights. Citizens Advice International (CAI) helps advice services to identify, share, apply and promote the best practices in empowering people to exercise their rights and in shaping social policy making.
Gibraltar chaired (CAI) from 2007/2009 and currently holds the chair. Member countries of CAI have visited Gibraltar in 2007/2009 to attend the General Assembly of CAI and conferences on Discrimination and Social Policy. Gibraltar was also reprinted in Brussels in 2009 at a CAI conference here their in conjunctions with European Citizens Advice Services at the European Parliament?’
The invitation is taken by us as recognition for the work we do for our community and our achievement in setting up this charity in Spain. Furthermore we are delighted that we also have been given the opportunity to apply to become a fully fledged member of CAI.
Richelle and I will be representing CAB Spain at the conference on the morning of the 22nd. We will also be attending the cocktail party on the evening of the conference at 8.30pm where all the speakers, trustees, ministers, staff and all the members of Citizens Advice International will be in attendance.
On the morning of the 23rd at 10.00 am, we will also be attending the meeting of all the delegates that form the network of Citizens Advice International That meeting will be attended by representatives of all the different countries. We will meet the delegates and have been invited to explain about the work of our organisation which were advised, would be of great interest to all.
I think that this is a great achievement for an association which was set up barely two years ago with no funding or government or other support. I am personally thrilled to have this opportunity to meet our counterparts and especially the delegates from CAB UK.
Last but not least, we will of course incur expenses attending this event which is fundamental for the future of CAB Spain. We also need some business cards and at least a smart pin to wear to show who we are. As always we can only turn to our member for support. We hope that members will also see the advantages of this opportunity and will donate via our website either with paypal or directly into the CAB account.
