If you’re having problems at work, whether it’s unfair dismissal, unpaid wages, unsafe working conditions, or issues with your contract, you don’t always need to go through a union to get help. You can report your concerns directly to the Inspección de Trabajo y Seguridad Social (Labour and Social Security Inspectorate).
This is the Spanish government body responsible for ensuring that employment laws are being followed. Their inspectors deal with:
• Legal working conditions (contracts, hours, wages)
• Health and safety in the workplace
• Discrimination or harassment at work
• Social Security compliance (including registration and contributions)
If you believe your rights as a worker have been violated, you can file a complaint (denuncia) — even anonymously, if you prefer.
How to Make a Complaint
You can find information or submit a complaint via the Ministry of Labour’s official website:
https://www.mites.gob.es
Or go directly to the complaint form:
https://expinterweb.mitramiss.gob.es/buzonfraude
You can also visit your local Provincial Labour Office (Inspección Provincial de Trabajo). Just search online for “Inspección de Trabajo” followed by the name of your province.
This service is free, and it’s there to protect workers, regardless of nationality.
Workers could consider joining a labour union. Who is the main unions in Spain? Are you UGT and CCOO.
