Current season tickets can only be used until Sunday, April 30. The new free titles come into force on Monday, May 1 and can be obtained at any time during their validity period as long as the user is previously registered.

Renfe has reinforced the systems and information points to remind Cercanías, Rodalies and Media Distancia users that they must purchase the free passes for the second quarter, which will be valid for travel from Monday, May 1, and until May 31. August 2023. To date, 143,000 new free passes have been issued (79,000 for Cercanías and 64,000 for Media Distancia) for the second four-month period.

Current free passes can only be used until next Sunday, April 30. It is necessary to purchase a new season ticket to travel for free from May 1, a day that is also a public holiday throughout Spain. That is why, given the foreseeable increase in demand for the new passes, Renfe has strengthened the information systems and points.

Renfe reminds users that in order to expedite processing and avoid unnecessary waiting, the purchase of passes is possible through the Cercanías Renfe app, and in the case of Media Distancia passes through the website and communication channels. usual sales (stations, vending machines, etc.). To do this, the user must be previously registered.

For Avant rail services, the 50% discount on season tickets is maintained. This same discount is applied to other high-speed routes that have been declared a Public Service Obligation, which operate under the same conditions as an Avant Pass.

Get the free subscription quickly and easily
The Cercanías app allows the acquisition of recurring Cercanías and Rodalies passes quickly, easily and quickly, generating a QR code that is downloaded to the mobile phone and can later be used to control station access.

To purchase the subscription, although it is free, it is necessary to deposit a deposit of 10 euros in the case of Cercanías and Rodalies, and 20 euros for each conventional Media Distancia service. Payment by card will allow the automatic return of the deposit, once it is verified that the condition of having made 16 trips during these four months has been met.

For children under 14 without ID, a recurring subscription for Media Distancia services has also been created, which can be purchased on the Renfe website or through the Renfe app. The father, mother or guardian may acquire, through their NIF, NIE or passport, a maximum of four child passes for one origin and destination, during the period of validity.

Travelers who have used the free commuter pass for Cercanías, Rodalies or Media Distancia in the first four-month period of 2023 will have their deposit returned, provided they have met the conditions thereof. Those who pay the deposit with a card will be automatically refunded.
