Update. The British Embassy is asking the Spanish government for an extension to the October 31 date.

The meeting took place this morning with with FCDO Minister Wendy Morton, the British Ambassador Hugh Elliott and consuls including the organiser, cónsul and chairperson Lorna Geddie. The meeting was based on a 45 minutes with the Minister who was to provide focused input to her meetings with the Spanish Government later in the day.

Some of the matters raised were the problems facing some residents due to the non acceptance and the validity of the green registration certificates by various administrative offices. Other topics included rejection of residency applications, visits by holiday home owners and the UK driving licences and the stamping of residents passports.

The ambassador said on the subject of holiday home owners visits were in discussion but of course the ruling of 90 days in 180 period is a Schengen matter and not a decision for Spain alone.

Reference the driving licence issue where a four month extension till October 31 had already been granted by the Spanish government, the ambassador was hopeful that there could be another extension as talks for a bilateral agreement are continuing.

We will provide any feedback from the meeting when received.
