Diabetes and Driving Licence

Information from the Foundation for Diabetes in Spain:

In accordance with a European Directive on the same subject, since September 2010, the period of validity of driving licenses for people with type 1 and type 2 diabetes (requiring treatment with insulin or hypoglycemic drugs), will be up to five years for group 1 permits (AM , A1, A2, A, B, B + E and LCC).

For group 2 permits (BTP, C1, C1 + E, C, C + E, D1, D1 + E, D, D + E), people with type 1 and type 2 diabetes (requiring treatment with insulin) they may obtain a maximum validity of one year. People with type 2 diabetes, treated with hypoglycaemic drugs, will be able to obtain a maximum validity of up to 3 years.

It is very important to emphasize that these periods may be lower according to optional criteria. At the time of renewal, it is essential to provide a favorable report from your specialist that certifies good control of the disease.
