Gibraltar Government notice; June 28, 2022

On 31 December 2020, as a result of the UK and Gibraltar’s departure from the European Union, reciprocal healthcare arrangements with the EU came to an end. Spain agreed to extend the reciprocal healthcare agreement until October 31, 2021.

Please read the full information below.

Full Information from the Gibraltar Government

CAB Note* The agreement if made would have come under social security coordination. There was such an agreement made between the UK and the EU member states in December 2020, therefore the above is for Gibraltar only and does not affect those who relocate to Spain from the UK.

The notice mentions no cover in an emergency. Please note the regulation on the Social Security website in these cases: “Emergency health care for serious illness or accident, whatever its cause, until medical discharge”.

Please note: The information provided is based upon our understanding of current legislation. It is not legal advice but is provided freely to enable you to be properly informed. We recommend that if you are considering taking action, you should seek professional advice.
